I was just thinking about comfort zones…you know how we really don’t like leaving our space or going outside of our level of expertise. We usually find a groove and just kind of stay there until we are forced to move.
The Lord says He never sends us anywhere He would not go; furthermore He accompanies us everywhere we go. We are mortals and God is not. As a matter of fact, He is also omnipotent so He does not fear. (We should take comfort in the fact that He is ever present with us and He already knows what will happen.)
Faith in God does wonders. Trusting in Him takes away anxiety and fear.
“And the Lord said unto him, Arise, and go into the street which is called Straight, and enquire in the house of Judas for one called Saul, of Tarsus: for, behold, he prayeth, and hath seen in a vision a man named Ananias coming in, and putting his hand on him, that he might receive his sight. Then Ananias answered, Lord, I have heard by many of this man, how much evil he hath done to thy saints at Jerusalem: and here he hath authority from the chief priests to bind all that call on thy name.” Acts 9:11-14 (KJV)
Do you know that Ananias found Saul, of Tarsus? The man who hunted down Christians and called for their death was actually chosen and called of God.
Talk about ‘out of your comfort zone.’ Ananias left his safe place in a time when Christians were publicly and violently persecuted to find one of those men who led the way. And Saul left what he thought was right in the sight of God to join the band he had fought so hard against. Can you imagine how either man felt? Both men feared the other but their fear of an Almighty God was greater.
As in Saul’s case, how often do we think we are on the straight and narrow path when we are really far from it? How often does our comfort zone hinder our purpose? If we become so caught up in where we are comfortable, we can’t really thrive; we can’t be the example we were made to be if we just sit idly by.
