Jonah…talk about avoiding work…

His example is a bold statement in how we refuse to do things we are called to do. He jumped on a ship headed in the opposite direction. He slept while the storm raged around him.

When he finally relented and accepted his call, the seas calmed and he obeyed the Lord.

Life is so much easier when we listen the first time. We don’t have to work harder to catch up. We don’t have to beg for forgiveness. We don’t have to go through unnecessary suffering.

A thing about Jonah, he only saw his plight and wanted mercy for himself. He didn’t understand why the Lord didn’t destroy Nineveh when everyone in the city repented.

Mercy isn’t just for me or just for you. Our desire should be mercy for all of us. We want mercy when we finally give into our call, when we finally admit we were wrong, when we turn toward God…

Funny how it works that way…

We want mercy for ourselves…

Do we give mercy to others?

When the Lord calls us to do something, we will do it. His Will is always done.
