But They That Wait

“But they that wait upon the Lord…” Isaiah 40:31 (KJV)

This has always been a special verse to me, mostly because my mom loved it. She waited, always, on the Lord to move before she did anything.

But I read the verse a few days ago and I read it differently.

“They that wait upon the Lord…” not they that just wait for a sign from Him, but they that serve Him. They that wait and do His work.

You see, Jesus Christ Himself came down from His throne in Heaven to do the Lord’s Will. He sacrificed Himself to redeem the Children of Grace. Jesus’s life was in service to His Father, God.

At the Last Supper, when Jesus blessed and broke the bread, and then blessed and poured the wine, He served His Disciples. Further, He knelt down and washed the feet of those partaking with Him. Jesus led by example: service.

We are in the service of the Lord. We await His orders and do as He commands.

Solomon’s servants… it is written that they stood by with joy to do their master’s bidding. They were happy to be in his presence and hear his words of wisdom.

Are we that way?

Do we lament serving the Lord? Or do we wait upon Him with joy?

“but they that wait upon the LORD shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” ‭‭Isaiah‬ ‭40‬:‭31‬ (‭KJV‬‬)

Let my strength be renewed and my spirit uplifted so I can wait upon the Lord and serve Him with a perfect heart.
