Demons

I’ve always struggled with depression. I don’t think that will ever change.

It feels just like any addiction, no matter what, the outcome is the same.

But lately I’ve been thinking. And I’ve found a new point of view.

It helps that I’ve been reading my Bible day and night, through and through.

It says that which goes in, doesn’t defile and condemn the man.

But what comes out: sin. That is death, an untimely end.

So my depression starts. And I let it happen and run its course.

But when thoughts run dark, I speak the truth and light up the source.

You see, depression is the devil. He comes in and plants his seed.

If I let his roots settle, they will grow and spew out of me.

What started the dark thoughts? Let me take a closer look.

I realize what I’ve sought, has been recorded in my Holy Book.

There is nothing new on Earth. Everything has been done before.

So for what it’s worth, I know that this too, is defeated once more.

Once more. Just one more time.

I can do this again, I can defeat my mind.

I’m not alone in this. Though I often feel to be.

Everyone goes through this; they have their own demons to beat.

But the battle is not ours. Yes, we must stand and fight.

We are divinely armed; surrounded by angels day and night.

Whatever your demon, whatever you fight against,

Know you can lean on the King of kings and Prince of Peace.

Fill yourself with the Word of God. Keep reading your Bible. Because what you take in, that is what comes out. If you focus on negative thoughts and feelings, then negative is all you have.

Just remember, you’re not alone. The Bible is full of stories of people who went through what you’re going through and they made it. They survived. They leaned on the Lord and put their faith and hope in Him.

And remember too, this life and all the suffering you do is to show the world how God brings you through. His power and glory are on display in all things. Life isn’t about us and the things we face; it’s about how God can take the battered and abused and make them new. He goes to the lowest places and meets His children there. He brings them up to the light and gives them the strength to carry on.

Trust me, your story isn’t over. This is just the beginning of God using you.

Praise the Lord, bless His holy name.
