Psalm 1
“Blessed is the man that walketh not in the counsel of the ungodly,…”
Oh Lord, do I fail…
“nor standeth in the way of sinners, Nor sitteth in the seat of the scornful.”
So much, Lord, do I fail you…
I feel like I stay in the counsel of the ungodly and I keep company with sinners and the scornful.
I feel like I am ungodly; I’m definitely a sinner.
The Book of Job is full of counsel by men of the flesh. Their intentions are well, but their words are flawed. The Lord rebukes them when He speaks.
None know the will of the Father. None of us can say His intentions.
Are we full of sin, yes.
Do we deserve the struggles we face, yes.
Look at Christ. He was spotless, innocent and pure; the Son of God. Look at His suffering. Did He deserve that? No.
So why did He suffer?
He suffered to show God’s power.
Job was righteous. He did everything according to the commandments of the Lord. His afflictions were to show the power of the Lord. Job was more blessed in life in the end than when he began. His possessions and children were more after Satan tormented him than before.
Why?
To demonstrate the power and love of God.
“But his delight is in the law of the LORD; And in his law doth he meditate day and night. And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, That bringeth forth his fruit in his season; His leaf also shall not wither; And whatsoever he doeth shall prosper. The ungodly are not so: But are like the chaff which the wind driveth away. Therefore the ungodly shall not stand in the judgment, Nor sinners in the congregation of the righteous. For the LORD knoweth the way of the righteous: But the way of the ungodly shall perish.”
Psalm 1:2-6 KJV
Meditate day and night in the law of the Lord. It doesn’t say meditate on, but meditate IN. Be IN the law of the Lord, keeping His commandments, and righteous in His eyes, not our own.
We can each justify ourselves, but the only justification that makes any difference is the justice of God.
Strive for His grace.
Meditate in, live IN, His law and be as the tree planted by the waters, the water of life that gives that eternal peace with God. Be as that tree bringing forth good fruit in all you do. Give God the praise, honor and glory. Live so that whatever you do, His light shines through you.
