Laziness

I love Proverbs, the Book in the Bible.

There is a verse that speaks of the sluggard not plowing because of the cold and when it is time for harvest, he won’t have anything. If you don’t plant, you don’t have anything to grow…

I’m not really into plants. Yes, we have a garden, and flowers all around the house, but I don’t do anything to them. I have a real black thumb when it comes to growing things.

But I was thinking about this verse in Proverbs 20:4 and I saw something other than the grain…

The Children of Grace have a seed planted within and it takes the Master’s touch to bring that seed to life…

I was recently talking with someone and we were debating the Gospel and the purpose of the Gospel. Some think that the Gospel is just for food for those called to His Church. Some think that the Gospel calls the Children to the Church.

I can’t see how you can separate the two…

The Lord says that He is one with His Church; He is one with His Son…

Every member of the Church has a duty and each member must perform that duty for the Body of the Bride of Christ to function as One with the Lord God.

If you can’t separate the Lord from His Children, His Church, how can you separate the members and their duty and still maintain the whole?

Back to the Sluggard…and the seed…

During the harvest, that’s when we reap what we sow…

If that seed isn’t nourished with the Word of God, it won’t grow as it should and we are desolate during the harvest.

Not saying that one must read the Word of God to be one of His, but when we are cold towards the Lord (because we all go through times when we turn from Him), we can’t return to HIM without some of that Gospel, some of HIS Word in us. We are barren at the time of the harvest. We don’t have that nourishment that provides for us and helps us grow.

It’s during the winter months that the plants need that extra protection and it is during our winters that we need that extra protection. We need that tilling of our clay to soften our hearts to receive His Word.

When I feel the most low down and desolate, that’s when I need my Lord and Savior the most. That is when I turn to His Word for comfort because if I turn from Him, that means that I am turning toward the world and Satan. I don’t want comfort from those places. I want the Comforter to come and surround me with His Lovingkindness. Only He knows how to break this body of clay and bring me to Him.

I can’t do it on my own, but I can try to plow this clay with His word and keep praying for understanding. Hopefully one day I will shake off this laziness that plagues this flesh and have some wisdom and understanding.

“The sluggard will not plow by reason of the cold; therefore shall he beg in harvest, and have nothing.” Proverbs 20:4 KJV
