Teach Me

Psalm 143:10 says “…teach me to do thy will; for thou art my God: thy spirit is good; lead me into the land of uprightness.”

“…teach me to do thy will…”

Do we really want to be taught?

Too many times, I’m afraid we want our will…

We want His will to be the same as our will…

We want HIM to change HIS will to match ours.

But we are not sin excepted. We are not justified. Nothing we do is justified in His sight.

So how can we think our will is better than His?

And look at how many times we wince at His instruction!

Yet we claim we want to be taught…

Lord, give me the desire to be taught. Lord, soften my stoney heart to hear and receive Your will.

It’s human nature to go contrary to the way the Lord has us to go. Look at the children of Israel in the book of Exodus. It is so much easier to give into the flesh than it is to walk in uprightness in the spirit.

It’s such a burden to try to be good all the time.

But all the time, God is good.

He is good to us when we don’t deserve it.

Teach me, Lord, to follow your will; give me the heart to desire your will and not complain at my lot. Lead me into that land of uprightness, that beautiful land where I can praise you as I ought.
