A Delight

“And Samuel said, Hath the LORD as great delight in burnt offerings and sacrifices, as in obeying the voice of the LORD? Behold, to obey is better than sacrifice, and to hearken than the fat of rams. For rebellion is as the sin of witchcraft, and stubbornness is as iniquity and idolatry. Because thou hast rejected the word of the LORD, he hath also rejected thee from being king.” 1 Samuel 15:22-23 KJV

“…to obey is better than sacrifice…”

When we wrong someone, we often prepare gifts; whether of service or a physical gift, we try to make amends in some way.

But, how often do we change our behavior? And when we are wronged, isn’t the changed behavior what we most desire? Is the Lord different from us in this way?

Samuel says “no”. Our Lord set up His commands for us to follow. He plainly states what we should do, but we often step outside of His path then attempt to make amends for our mistakes.

We are not perfect, but we also cling to that phrase as an excuse.

If we could be blessed to follow the Lord in oneness of heart, mind and spirit, then our changed behavior would be a delight to the Lord.
